En Primeur

Quintessentially Wine has recently developed a superb negociant in Bordeaux and as such in 2009 allowed Quintessentially Wine to offer its members the chance to purchase top-end Bordeaux at some of the best prices in the market.
 
What is En Primeur?
 
'En Primeur', is a method of purchasing wines before they are bottled and in some cases before they are even reviewed by experts, whilst in barrel.
 
It goes without saying that the reviews given are by no means definitive but often Matthew Jukes among others get their predictions very close to spot on with the finished product. While the wine can still develop in barrel and then in bottle, the guides given are usually very accurate and can help to give an indication as to how the price of these wines and their style may change over the years.
 
By no means is this opportunity only relevant for those who look at wine as a form of investment but more importantly for the discerning collector who wishes to purchase at the price it is released excluding duty and VAT.*
 
This period for Bordeaux runs approximately between March and June however, there is no exact release date for the Chateaux, so wines can be released as late as August or September. The wines are not shipped and thus not delivered until 3 years following the vintage.
