Oh its flavors, they're just the most haunting and brilliant and thrilling and subtle and... ancient on the planet.” Being the focal point of the film “Sideways” in 2005 changed the world for Pinot Noir. Immediately following the premiere, sales increased up to 20% in the UK making Pinot Noir a part of the common wine vocabulary across the country.

Being loved and respected long before that by wine aficionados, the grape has equally caused endless worries for its caretakers and has acquired sobriquets such as femme fatale, made by the devil, the minx of a wine, a goddess etc. Nevertheless, that is no wonder – Pinot Noir is the greatest challenge to any wine maker. It is highly difficult to grow, it is unaccommodating, elusive and needs constant care and attention, and being a clear communicator of terroir it requires nothing less than perfect conditions. However, when these criteria are complied with, the absolute most alluring, elegant and delicate wines are conjured!

An attractive, captivating, and seductive Pinot Noir is genuinely as irresistible as a Siren, so imagine what sort of affair is to come when we present ten of its kind...

Thursday 24 May – Winemaker’s Dinner with Dave Powell, Founder of Torbreck

Address:               The Montcalm London City Hotel, 52 Chiswell St, EC1

Time:                    19.00 – 23.00

Ticket price:         £175 per ticket

This is an event we have been looking forward to for quite some time. We are delighted to have secured the owner of Torbreck Dave Powell to host a private wine dinner where we will be pouring his wines. As a bit of background, the winery, which was established in 1994, is situated in Barossa Valley, South Australia and is famous for small batch winemaking and blending. Furthermore, Torbreck has won much recognition for capturing the best of both worlds by emulating the styles used in the Rhône Valley while at the same time utilizing the raw materials and terroir of the Barossa.

We have tried to transfer this mentality to the choice of venue and we have found, in the historic Barbican, the 5 star boutique hotel Montcalm which blends a unique contemporary luxury into an ambience of timeless heritage being located in an original brewery.

Dave has selected 7 wines to be shown on the evening, including The Factor, Descendant, Les Amis as well as the magnificent iconic flagship wine, RunRig.

This exclusive dinner will without doubt be a unique opportunity to meet one of the world’s finest wine makers in an intimate and friendly environment and learn about the fascinating history and wines of Torbreck – if you are interested, get in quick as we only have 12 seats available!

Please note our cancellation policy. Cancellations for wine tastings need to be made 72 hours prior to the event in order to obtain a refund. Should you wish to transfer your ticket to another event, please notify Gemma Silver. Transfers will only be possible within two months from the first booking. For dinners and masterclasses, refunds can only be made if we can fill the places on your behalf.
